                         What 
                          may cause asthma? 
                        
                          - Inhaled 
                            allergens such as house dust mites, animal dander, 
                            pollen, grasses, mould spores; 
 
                          - Irritant 
                            gases, ie cigarette smoke; 
 
                          - Ingested 
                            allergens: Studies (see references) have indicated 
                            that food allergies play an important role in asthma 
                            and hayfever (the main culprits include dairy, 
                            wheat, eggs, yeast, chololate, nuts and fish), drugs 
                            (most common are penicillin and other antibiotics, 
                            aspirin and certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory 
                            drugs), additives, colourings (E102 tartazine is very 
                            common in children), preservatives such as the benzoates 
                            E210219 and metabisulphites E220227, yeast 
                            and moulds on food, household chemicals; 
 
                          - Temperature 
                            changes (especially cold weather which constrict the 
                            bronchioles); 
 
                          - Emotional
